BUTUAN CITY – A fire of still unknown origin gutted over 150 residential houses and some small businesses in the adjacent Barangays of Ong Yiu and San Ignacio in this city late Monday afternoon.

Butuan City Mayor Engr. Ronnie Vicente C. Lagnada has mobilized the social welfare office and other departments of the city government to attend to the immediate needs of the 350 families at Barangay Ong Yiu and 100 families of Barangay San Ignacio, which were affected the fire. In all, there were 2,292 individuals affected.
Staff and personnel of the Constituency Office of Butuan City and first district Rep. Laurence Lemuel Fortun were also immediately mobilized to assist the needs of the fire victims.
These who lost their homes have been temporarily sheltered at the Ong Yiu Covered Court and Ong Yiu Quadrangle Elementary School.
There was no casualty reported.
Initial damage to property was pegged at around P5 million.
