DAVRAA suspended anew due to COVID-19 threat

By Armando Fenequito Jr.  DAVAO CITY – The annual Davao Regional Athletic Association (DAVRAA) 2020 meet has been cancelled anew by the provincial government of Davao de Oro due to the threat posed by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). (FACEBOOK / MANILA BULLETIN) (FACEBOOK / MANILA BULLETIN) This was announced by the provincial government, posted through DAVRAA-Davao de Oro 2020 official Facebook Page on Monday night. It stated the suspension came after the Department of Education (DepEd) released the Memorandum No. 34, series of 2020 or the "Fifth Set of Policy Directives of DepEd Task Force COVID-19." The memorandum of postponement covers all regional activities involving learners and teachers requiring travel and congregation of various schools or divisions, including Regional Athletic Meets. The statement said that the suspension of the annual regional sporting meet will be indefinite, and remain suspended until further notice. DAVRAA 2000 was first supposed to be staged March 15 to 22 but was put off to April 1 to 7 until the provincial government postponed it anew. DepEd 11 Spokesperson Jenielito Atillo clarified that indefinite suspension does not mean cancellation of this year’s event. Atillo said the event will still be staged, but only after the situation on Covid-19 will be placed under control. “Primordial to us is the safety of all particularly the children,” he said. He said DepEd 11 salutes the efforts of the Province of Davao De Oro and its people hoping that this suspension will be lifted the soonest in order for the Province to showcase its Golden Moment. Last month, Davao de Oro Governor Jayvee Tyrone L. Uy ordered the postponement of the annual regional sporting meet pursuant to the advisory of Department of Health (DOH) refraining local governments to host events that will gather crowds of people.
