(DepEd / MANILA BULLETIN) Issuing a statement, DepEd clarified that there is no official decision yet on uniform designs. “It came to our attention that there were pictures and videos circulating in social media announcing the new sets of DepEd national uniform designs for SYs 2020-2022,” DepEd said. Given this, DepEd maintained that “leaked” designs currently circulating online are not yet “official.” The department earlier created DepEd Uniform Committee (DUC) facilitate the selection of uniforms for its officials and employees. “The DUC will still present and recommend the shortlisted uniform sets to the Secretary and Executive Committee,” DepEd said. Education Secretary Leonor Briones, in DepEd memorandum no. 017 series 2020, announced the creation of the DepEd Uniform Committee (DUC) to help facilitate in the selection of uniforms of officials and employees of the department for school years (SYs) 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. Briones, in the said memo, explained that the DUC shall be tasked to “prepare the guidelines for the selection of the uniform designs and materials that will be most appropriate and suitable for the teachers and non-teaching employees.” The DUC is also tasked to “decide on issues relevant to the selection of the DepEd uniform” and will “determine the mode of distributing the clothing allowance for current year 2020 and method of procuring the clothing materials for the selected uniforms.” The newly-created DUC will also “monitor the implementation of the wearing of the prescribed selected uniforms and resolve issues,” which may arise after. Briones said that the “uniform designs, the mode of distributing the clothing allowance, and the method of selecting the uniform materials recommended by the DUC shall be presented to the ExeCom for approval.” “The DUC will still present and recommend the shortlisted uniform sets to the Secretary and Executive Committee,” DepEd said. To date, DepEd said that nine (9) of the 11 votes for the final and official uniform sets “will be coming from our teachers, principals, and DepEd staff through the nine teaching and non-teaching accredited organizations.” “The final and official DepEd national uniform designs and colors shall be officially announced through a DepEd issuance,” the department stressed. DepEd added that the the issuance “will be simultaneously released in time for the P6,000 clothing allowance for FY 2020.” DepEd encouraged its personnel to “buy their preferred fabric/textile, in accordance with the prescribed design and color.” Furthermore, the DUC also recommended the “implementation of the new uniform policy in August or last quarter of the year to provide ample time for the purchase of clothing materials and sewing of the uniforms.” Meanwhile, DepEd also urged all of DepEd personnel to “practice good judgment in discerning reliable sources of news and updates pertaining to DepEd policies.”
