(Facebook / MANILA BULLETIN) The MCs at the Eversley Childs Sanitarium and General Hospital were put up in February this year. With the opening of the three MCs in Cebu the country now has 71 MCs, with 33 in Luzon, 18 in the Visayas and 20 in Mindanao. “The goal is to establish Malasakit Centers in all public hospitals in the country,” Senator Christopher “Bong” Go said in his keynote message as he led the ribbon cutting of the three MCs here. The three newly opened MCs will receive P5 million check each as initial Malasakit Fund, which was turned over by the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) to the chiefs of the respective hospitals. The MCs are the brainchild of Go who envisioned establishing a one-stop shop for government medical and financial assistance for poor and indigent patients in government hospitals nationwide. The very first Malasakit Center was established in Cebu City in 2018. A Malasakit Center houses desk representatives from the different government agencies such as Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and the Department of Health (DOH) who will be present to cater to the needs of the indigent patients. In an interview after the event in Talisay City Saturday, Go said that more Malasakit Centers are slated to be opened in Cebu Province. “Mayroon pa tayong plano pa naapat na lugar—sa Bogo, Carcar, Balamban at Danao. ‘Yan ang mga plans natin, perosangayon, ang inyongprobinsyanamgaBisaya ay maraminangMalasakit Center.” The first Malasakit Center in the country was opened in the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City in February 2018, and the 66th was opened in the Eversley Child's Sanitarium and General Hospital in Mandaue City in February this year, Go said. Aside from DOH-run hospitals that will have Malasakit Centers as mandated by law, hospitals operated by local government units may also have their own Malasakit Centers provided they meet the standards and criteria set by the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR)that was recently signed. “This is to ensure sustainability of operations and consistency of the quality of service of Malasakit Centers around the country,” Go added.
