Safety measures in place for Seslong Festival in T'boli, South Cotabato

T’BOLI, SOUTH COTABATO- Local authorities have undertaken stringent safety measures to contain the possible spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) during the weeklong festivities of the Seslong Festival that kicked off here on Thursday.

Mayor Dibu Tuan said he issued an executive order, which sought the formation of an inter-agency task force composed of the local health office, local tourism office, police and military to implement safety measures during the festivities.
The checkpoints were set up in the town’s strategic entry points manned by security forces and health personnel equipped with thermal scanners to check the health condition of foreign and local tourists who flock to the town for the celebration.
He said local health personnel were also deployed in public terminal in Koronadal City to check on passengers bound for T’boli to ensure that they are safe from COVID-19 infection.
Municipal councilor Keo Dale Tuan, Seslong festival director, said the local government was closely coordinating with the Department of Health (DOH) and Philippine National Police (PNP) for the effective implementation of health and security measures during this year’s Seslong festival which is held in celebration of the town’s 46th founding anniversary of the municipality.
He assured festival revellers that local authorities will not be taking any chances to contain the possible spread of the disease during the celebration of the Seslong festival which will showcase the indigenous culture and tradition of the T’boli tribesmen.

P/Colonel Jemuel Siason, South Cotabato police director, said personnel from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, were also deployed to augment the local police force in the implementation of public safety and security measures during the festival.
