MALOLOS CITY – Projects to improve access and ease traffic in roads leading to and exiting the Northern Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in Bocaue, Santa Maria and Marilao will soon be underway, officials said.
NLEX (ALVIN KASIBAN / MANILA BULLETIN)
According to Adora Sunga, information officer of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Central Luzon, the agency will soon start construction works on three roads. These include the four-lane road in Bocaue that will connect the Manila North Road or the MacArthur Highway with the westbound lane of the recently finished Ciudad de Victoria Interchange of the NLEX; the concreting of the Ciudad de Victoria interchange in the eastbound lane leading to Santa Maria; and the construction of a new, 1.3-kilometer road from Santa Maria leading to Barangay Patubig in Marilao.
The Bocaue-Santa Maria juncture of the project will entail the widening of 640 linear meters of the Bocaue Municipal Road to accommodate four lanes instead of the present two, Sunga said.
About 1.91 kilometers of road would be constructed to connect the MacArthur Highway with the Bocaue Municipal Road fronting the municipal hall.
It can be recalled that during the latter part of last year, DPWH opened the Ciudad de Victoria exit at the NLEX in time for the country’s hosting of the Southeast Asian Games. Sunga said that the four-lane road that will connect Ciudad Victoria with MacArthur Highway will be finished sometime in the middle of 2020.
The Ciudad De Victoria Interchange Overpass Bridge is also expected to serve as alternate road to the heavily congested Gov. Fortunato Halili Road in Sta. Maria.
Traffic at the Bocaue juncture of the NLEX is perennially clogged as this road is also used by trucks in going to Norzagaray. The Ciudad De Victoria exit and improvements at the Bocaue NLEX exit are expected to ease the usual heavy traffic in the area.
