PILILLA, Rizal – Devotees of the Black Nazarene of Quiapo in this town have until Monday morning, March 2, to have a moment of veneration and prayer in front of the image of Jesus Christ in maroon robe at the parish church here.
Since its arrival at the Parish Church of Mary Magdalene here, the Black Nazarene has drawn a huge number of local devotees composed of residents of this town and nearby municipalities in the province.
The traditional “pahalik”, or the wiping of the feet and cross of the replica of Quiapo Church’s black antique image of the cross-bearing Jesus Christ by devotees, was done right after the masses on the second day of the stay of image.
A noontime procession was held in the town proper, giving residents the chance to see the image as it passed in front of their houses Sunday.
Devotees in maroon t-shirts walked bare feet as the image standing on its wooden pedestal was carried on their shoulders as the procession made its way through the streets around the town.
Some residents waved handkerchiefs as the Black Nazarene passed by in front of them while others wiped towels on the image.
The Black Nazarene replica made a brief stopover at some chapels in the parish during its four-da stay in the town.
The image is scheduled to leave the 16th parish church on March 2, Monday, following the “Pahalik” at 11 a.m.
