DAVAO ORIENTAL – The city government of Mati is planning to develop tourist attractions in all 26 barangays in the city, with a touch of culture and arts of the indigenous peoples (IPs).

Marilyn Yumon, technical stall for IP Concerns, said that aside from the beautiful beaches and bays, Mati City had also a lot to offer when it comes to culture and arts, especially on the Mandayan culture.
This was why, Yumon said, they decided to meet with various tribal leaders in the city for them to identify possible tourist attractions in their respective areas that the city government could help them develop.
An orientation of Tourism and Cultural Profile was conducted at the conference room of the Mati City Hall in Mati on February 26, Wednesday morning. The orientation was in line with the Mati Council for Culture and the Arts (MCCA) plans that will promote culture and arts of the city.
Attending the meeting were Dashiel Indelible, city tourism Officer; Marilyn Yumon; Mila Valles, local cultural and arts officer; Felicito Masagnay, representative of the City Indigenous People Mandatory; and Mandaya Tribal chieftains of the invited barangays.
Mati City Information Office head Ben Tesiorna said after the identification of the tourist destinations, the Council is already set to conduct validation in the barangays before proceeding with the public consultation.
Tesiorna said the validation will run from March to April of this year, adding that the pilot area would be Barangay Macambol followed by Lanca, Luban and Cabuaya.
