The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop where indigent patients can efficiently access financial medical assistance from agencies such as PhilHealth, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
"The establishment of a Malasakit Center in public hospitals ensures every Filipino is protected from financial risks and given assistance under a one-stop shop,” Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said in a statement.
“Each Juan and Juana deserves to be treated with dignity and compassion, especially at their most vulnerable conditions. The goals of UHC (Universal Health Care) are within reach, but requires the concerted efforts of all sectors and stakeholders to make it happen,” he added.
The DOH led the signing of the IRR of the Malasakit Center Act together with representatives from the DSWD, PhilHealth, and PCSO.
The DOH said there are 63 Malasakit Centers nationwide -- 26 centers in DOH hospitals, 36 in local government unit-operated hospitals, and one at the Philippine General Hospital.
President Duterte signed the Malasakit Center Act on Dec. 3 last year. It was a pet project of Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go.
