Davao City cop nabbed for facilitating execution of affidavit of desistance

By Armando Fenequito Jr.  DAVAO CITY - A police officer is now facing charges after facilitating the execution of affidavit of desistance in favor of a suspected human trafficker. A Davao City Police Office (DCPO) report identified the erring policeman as Staff Sgt. Krist Mark J. Manulat, 35, who is currently assigned at San Pedro Police Station here. Report said Manulat was arrested in an entrapment operation launched by the Regional Investigation Detective Management Division (RIDMD-RWCPD) of Police Regional Office 11, together with Regional Mobile Force Battalion 11 and San Pedro Police Station on February 18. It stated that Manulat and a man identified as Arnold Lee Piang, 49 of Buluan, Maguindanao, asked the victim, whose identity was withheld to protect him, to drop the case against Aya Lee Macasindil for violation of Republic Act 10364 the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Person Act of 2012. Macasindil had a standing warrant of arrest of two counts for qualified trafficking without bail, two counts for violation of R.A. 7610, which had P200,000 bail each, and other pending cases. The operatives seized two cellular phone, a wrapped brown envelope containing P50,000 cash, a pink envelope containing the affidavit, and another P30,000 cash from Piang's possession. Also taken from Manulat were cellphone, modified tactical knife, his 9mm caliber service pistol a spare magazine loaded of 15 pieces of ammunition. Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 spokesperson Maj. Eudisan Gultiano said Manulat will be facing administrative and criminal charges.
