BIR: Taxpayers should use online tax payment facilities

By Jun Ramirez As the filing of the 2019 income tax returns nears, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) asked yesterday all taxpayers to make use of the online payment system which is more convenient and easy to use. Ms. David said remitting taxes online is hassle-free as evidence by the increasing number of individuals and businesses using the automated payment system since 2018, roughly 60 percent of the total number of businesses. Aside from the BIR's electronic Filing and Payment System (eFPS), the bureau has provided taxpayers five additional electronic options to settle their liabilities. These are mobile payment thru GCash, Landbank Link.biz Portal, DBP Pay Tax Online System, Unionbank Online and PesoNet Landbank Link.biz Portal. PayMaya, the latest online service firm authorized to accept tax payment, is an app that gives users a virtual prepaid card to shop online, pay bills and send money. "We are happy to offer PayMaya as a new payment channel where individual taxpayers can easily remit taxes wherever they are in the country," David said during the news conference. PayMaya chief executive officer Orlando Vea said they are offering cash discount promo to encourage taxpayers to avail themselves of the service. He said taxpayers using its bills payment section are entitled to a P100 cash back for tax payment of at least P1,000 for remittances made on Feb. 15, 16, 22, 23 and 29.
