Another Maute group remnant surrenders in Lanao del Sur

By Bonita Ermac ILIGAN CITY – Two more remnants of the Maute Terror Group have surrendered to the military in Barangay Sandab, Butig, Lanao del Sur. (Bonita Ermac / MANILA BULLETIN) (Bonita Ermac / MANILA BULLETIN) According to 49th Infantry Battalion (49th IB) Commander Lt. Col. Edgar Allan Villanueva, Mosa Amboto Olama, 33, surrendered to his men at 9:45 a.m. last Tuesday, February 11. Olama turned over an M1 Garand rifle, magazine and ammunitions. Just a day earlier, two of Olama’s comrades also yielded to the 49th IB, added Villanueva. Olama was said to have been recruited by Mahadi Maute, brother of Omar Maute and Abdullah Maute, with whom he fought side-by-side during the Marawi Siege in year 2017. According to 103rd Infantry Brigade Acting Commander Col. Jose Maria Cuerpo II, the continued surrender of remnants of Maute was due to the disordered leadership and operational capability of the terrorist group. “We are also confident with our relentless combat operations that made the remnants and other threat groups tired and hungry which forced them to surrender”, added Cuerpo.
