Metro Manila is 2nd among 416 traffic-congested cities

The index showed that Manila has 73 percent of congestion level in highways, while 70 percent in non-highways. The index also said that Filipinos lost 10 days and 17 hours in 2019 to rush hour traffic. In the morning, 29 minutes are added for every 30-minute trip and additional 38 minutes in the evening. The report noted that the day of the week with the worst rush hour would be Friday Report also revealed Friday as the day of the week with the worst rush hour particularly from 6 to 7 p.m. Travelling after 7 p.m. on Friday could save a motorist up to 5 hours per year for a 30-minute commute, it added. Friday evening rush had an average congestion level of 128 percent Data also showed that April 19 last year had the lowest average daily congestion in Manila, while August 16 had the most traffic congestion. “We calculate the baseline per city by analyzing free-flow travel times of all vehicles on the entire road network—recorded 24/7, 365 days a year,” the company said. “We perform calculations for all hours of each day, so you can see how congestion levels at any time in any city, including morning and evening peak hours,” it added. In 2018, Metro Manila was named as the most congested city in developing Asia by the Asian Development Bank. Meanwhile, Bengaluru, India was named as the world’s most traffic-congested city in 2019.
