Quiambao-Del Rosario is new Miriam College president

By Alexandria Dennise San Juan  The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) is set to inaugurate former Foreign Affairs undersecretary and diplomat Ambassador Laura Quiambao-Del Rosario as the new president of Miriam College. Prior to her new post, Del Rosario has an outstanding track record of 37 years in the Philippine Foreign Service, which led in her appointment as Undersecretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs from 2011-2016. She also served in various positions in Philippine Embassies abroad, including Vienna, Singapore, and Washington, D.C. and her last appointment in India and Vietnam. She received the Gawad Kamanong Presidential Award for her work in economic diplomacy in 2012 and the Sikatuna Presidential Award for her work as chair of the Senior Officials’ Meetings for the APEC Manila Summit in 2016. Del Rosario is an alumna of Miriam College, then Maryknoll College, where she started her professional career as a professor for literary studies and also served as Director of Admissions of the college. She continued to serve her alma mater as a Trustee of the Board prior to her appointment as President. Meanwhile, the Miriam College Board of Trustees, through its Chair Josefina Tan, said that it is honored and excited to have another alumna leading the school. "The Board trusts that Ambassador Quiambao-Del Rosario will bring Miriam College forward with wisdom and passion, as we work towards further strengthening Miriam College in Quezon City and Nuvali, Laguna, with the future opening of our third campus in Porac, Pampanga," Tan said. The Board head added that Del Rosario's extensive work in the foreign service and diplomacy will further enhance the school's present efforts to expand global partnerships and academic opportunities. Del Rosario succeeds Dr. Rosario Oreta-Lapus, who served as president of the College from 2010-2019. The Board also thanked Lapus for her “excellent leadership” and “putting the school in a good and strong position for the future” during her term through her innovative approach to learning and teaching; her contributions to ensure a flourishing co-educational campus in Nuvali; and her role in the strategic acquisition of a third site in Porac, Pampanga.
