The Filipino slang word “layogenic” was featured as word of the day of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
The television channel defined the slang word “layogenic” as a person who is attractive from a distance but not from up close.
The word “layo” is a Tagalog word which means “far” while “genic” is derived from an English word “photogenic” which means “looks attractive on photographs or on a film.”
The term “layogenic” is not included in any official dictionary but a crowdsourced online dictionary for slang words and phrases has a definition for the term.
Urban Dictionary defined it as “a person who appears attractive from a distance, but not up close.”
Filipinos tend to create or invent words that are related to “photogenic” such as “talikodgenic” which means that a person is only attractive when seen from the back.
Reports said that not only BBC featured the word “layogenic.” Other foreign websites such as Just English, Day Translations, Mental Floss, and italki also used the slang word.
