Vice President Leni Robredo underscored the need for government officials to visit for themselves the affected areas and its residents for the better delivery of relief assistance in the aftermath of calamities.

“It is important for officials like us to actually see the situation rather than we just hear it from the news. Because the aid to be delivered is more appropriate,” Robredo said in Filipino.
“If their reason is to see first-hand what is the situation, I think there is nothing wrong with that because it is really different when you go on the ground instead of just holding a meeting,” she said reacting to the decision of the House of Representatives to hold regular session at the Batangas City Convention Center on Tuesday.
Robredo returned to the calamity areas in Batangas province to bring more relief assistance to Taal Volcano eruption a day before the Lower House’s scheduled session in Batangas City, which is outside the danger zone.
Apart from listening to the needs of those affected, lawmakers are expected tackle disaster-related bills, including the creation of the Department of Disaster Resilience (DDR), during the session.
