By Armando Fenequito Jr.  DAVAO CITY -The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) is now promoting Moringa or malunggay seeds propagation to raise the food source of ordinary households through vegetable growing. In a statement, MinDA Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said that in the town of Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte , he gave packets of Moringa seeds to Mayor Rommel Arnado last January 15 for propagation in his town. “Moringa or "malunggay" is a common vegetable which has earned much attention making it into herbal medicines or ingredient to the Pinoy’s favorite salted bread “pandesal”. He also promoted the planting of malunggay in backyards for the consumption of families and for those who have animal farms. "Aside from food value, the Moringa can also help those raising goats and poultry,” he explained, adding that, Moringa leaves mixed with feeds could improve the animals' growth and milk production. During the MinDA Water Supply and Livelihood Orientation Program in Iligan City, Piñol distributed packets of Moringa seeds to the attendees in a hope to improve nutrition of household food consumption. “The seeds actually came from my Fil-Am friend, Rocky French, who has incorporated Moringa and "Lupo" in his feed formulation for his Tilapia production in Coachella Valley, Southern California” Piñol said. “I will be giving out packets of Moringa seeds to the municipal agriculturists of Lanao sel Sur”, said Piñol adding that “they will be asked to develop a seed production garden in their towns so that the planting of Moringa could be cascaded down to the villages," he added.
