The Department of National Defense (DND) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) welcomed on Thursday the designation of Maj. Gen. Allen Paredes as the 37th commanding general of the Philippine Air Force (PAF).
Paredes takes over the command from Lt. Gen. Rozzano Briguez who reaches the mandatory retirement age of 56 on Friday (Jan. 17). The change of command ceremony was scheduled on Thursday afternoon at Villamor Air Base in Pasay City.

"MGen Paredes' wide experience and sterling record will serve the PAF well as he leads it to new heights. We wish him good luck," Defense spokesperson Director Arsenio Andolong said.
"He is one of the PAF's most experienced command pilots, having served the AFP for 36 years," AFP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo said. He added that Paredes has served in different echelons of air command with distinction.
Paredes is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) "Maringal" Class of 1988.
Prior to his designation as PAF Chief, he served as the commander of the Air Logistics Command whose primary mission is to provide logistics support to all air force units.
He became the Chief of Air Staff, the third in command, from July 2018 to Feb. 2019.
From Feb. 2016 to July 2018, he was wing commander of the 250th Presidential Airlift Wing, an attached unit of the Presidential Security Group (PSG). Its primary mission is to provide aircraft and aircrew support for the airlift of the Philippine president and his or her immediate family members, Cabinet members, presidential staff, visiting heads of states, and other local and foreign VIPs.
He was in the 15th Strike Wing based at Danilo Atienza Air Base in Sangley Point, Cavite in his younger days.
Meanwhile, Briguez is a member of the PMA "Sinagtala" Class of 1986. He served as PAF Chief for one year and one month, having been installed in December 2018. He formulated the new command framework of the Air Force, the "Padayaon PAF: Perform, Reform, Transform."
