One of the suspects in the 2009 Maguindanao massacre, who has evaded authorities for over a decade, was finally captured January 9 in Barangay Timbangan, Shariff Aguak in Maguindanao.
He was collared by personnel of the Police Regional Office – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PRO-BARMM) on the strength of a warrant of arrest issued against him.

Arrested was Gambayan N. Kasim, also known as Lori Alip, 47 years old and a resident of Shariff Aguak. A hand grenade was also recovered from him.
He was reportedly one of the suspects who have managed to elude arrest in connection with the 2009 Maguindanao massacre, and remained at-large when a Quezon City Trial Court rendered a decision last December 19, 2019 convicting those implicated in the carnage, including Ampatuan brothers Datu Andal Jr. and Zaldy.
Kasim’s companion Edsrail Guiomla, also known as Nas Guiomla, tried to shoot it out with operating units, but ended up being neutralized, and declared dead on-arrival at a local hospital.
Recovered from Guiomla was a caliber-.45 pistol and 13 plastic sachets containing shabu.
Meanwhile, Kasim and the recovered pieces of evidence are now in the custody of PRO-BARMM for documentation and proper disposition.
PRO Regional Chief Police Brigadier General Marni C Marcos Jr. said the successful operation was the product of intensive intelligence gathering undertaking by PRO-BARMM.
Marcos also acknowledged the support given by other community stakeholders who are actively supporting the anti-illegal drugs campaign of the PNP, as well as its peace-building initiatives.
