The Manila Public Information Office clarified on Thursday that the cross of the Black Nazarene did not break during the procession, contrary to the news update it earlier released on Facebook which was widely shared by netizens and media outlets.
The Manila Public Information Office posted on Thursday a news update on its official Facebook page, saying the Black Nazarene cross broke during the procession. It later clarified that the cross was bent, but did not break because it is detachable and bendable. (Manila PIO / MANILA BULLETIN)
According to the Information Office, the portion of the cross was bent when it was turning right on Hidalgo Street around noon, but did not break because it is "actually detachable and bendable."
It added that the photographer who sent photos and details to its office failed to "provide full context of the situation."
"Rest assured that this office will learn from this incident to serve you better as the Manila City government's public relations and communications team," it ended.
