Angkas app update now requires passengers to disclose their weight – for safety reasons

By Patrick Garcia After its app update, popular motorcycle ride-hailing app Angkas now requires passengers to provide their weight information and says it may deny rides to “heavy passengers.” (ALVIN KASIBAN / MANILA BULLETIN) (ALVIN KASIBAN / MANILA BULLETIN) The update added several safety measures and improvements including the Weight Safety Check, which requires the user to specify their weight range from Below 150 lbs. (68kg), 150 lbs. to 200 lbs. (68kg to 90kg), and Over 200 lbs. (90kg). This Weight Safety Check is included in the government’s guidelines on motorcycle safety and requires that the weight of the passenger be matched with the right rider and motorcycle. “Government guidelines on motorcycle safety require us to ensure that small bikers with small bikes are not paired with passengers they may not be able to ferry,” Angkas said.
