2 OFWs in coma repatriated from Macau, Armenia

(Macau PCG photo via DFA website / MANILA BULLETIN) A Filipina household service worker in Macau who has been in comatose since April was finally reunited with his family on August 29, 2019, through the assistance of the Philippine Consulate. The OFW, whose identity is being withheld, was confined since for months at the Centro Hospitalar Conde de São Januário (San Teng Hospital). Her daughter, who also works in Macau, referred her case to the Consulate in May. On her way back to the Philippines, the Filipina migrant worker was escorted on the flight by Dr. Alexis Dimapilis of the Department of Health (DOH)–Migrant Health Unit who served serve as her medical escort. Philippine Consul General to Macau Lilybeth Deapera said the work to ensure that the OFW is repatriated back to the country required close coordination among several officials from different agencies based in Macau, Manila and La Union. “The Philippine Government will extend all efforts across all borders in promoting the welfare and well-being of our kababayans anywhere in the world,” said Deapera. Meanwhile, a Filipino national who suffered a stroke in Yerevan, Armenia arrived in Manila on August 25, 2019. The Filipino suffered a serious stroke last May and was in a coma until June. Casaclang) via DFA website / MANILA BULLETIN) According to a report from the Philippine Embassy in Moscow, the Filipino OFW expressed his desire to return home as soon as he recovered from his coma. He was, however, confined to a hospital for treatment and therapy to and to enable him to travel back home. Armenian doctors who attended to the Filipino worker praised his swift recovery after undergoing a serious medical crisis. The Philippine Embassy in Moscow, with jurisdiction over Armenia, worked very closely with the Philippine Honorary Consul General to Armenia Albert Taroyan and his staff Sona Hovhannisyan to care for the Filipino stroke victim and his wife. The repatriation efforts from Armenia were conducted in close cooperation with the Department of Foreign Affairs–Office of Migrant Workers’ Affairs and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, which provided on-the-ground medical assistance upon the Filipino’s arrival in Manila.
