LTFRB launches PUVMP caravan in Mindanao

By Alexandria San Juan The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) launched on Monday the second phase of its nationwide Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) caravan in Mindanao.

(LTFRB / FACEBOOK / MANILA BULLETIN) LTFRB chairman Martin Delgra III and regional director Paterno Reynato Padua of LTFRB-XII led the opening ceremony in General Santos City where the first stop of the PUVMP caravan in Mindanao was inaugurated. The caravan, with the theme "Arangkada ng Pagbabago Tungo sa Kaunlaran," aims to showcase a variety of PUVMP compliant units and promote awareness on the government's modernization program to stakeholders including PUV drivers, operators and the riding public across the country. The event started with a motorcade of modern PUVs around the city followed by a short program held at SM City General Santos. Representatives of various government agency partners attended the event and discussed significant parts of the PUVMP such as consolidation of franchises, fleet management, subsidy, and loans. The whole-day program also included an open forum for cooperatives, operators, and drivers, to share and clarify their concerns on the modernization project and to encourage discussion between government and stakeholders. At least 290 drivers and operators with 50 cooperatives in central Mindanao were also in attendance. Also present in the event were local government officials from General Santos City and Sarangani, and representatives from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Office of Transportation Cooperatives (OTC), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Landbank of the Philippines (LBP), and Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP). The PUV Modernization Program is the flagship non-infrastructure project of the administration which aims to provide a safe, reliable, convenient, affordable and environmentally-sustainable public transportation system in the country.
