PCG encourages Filipinos to apply for 4-year cadet program offered by US

Philippine Coast Guard (MANILA BULLETIN) Philippine Coast Guard (MANILA BULLETIN) The PCG has announced that they are looking for qualified civilian applicants nationwide after the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) has invited them to nominate candidates for the International Cadet Program of the USCGA Class of 2024. The program will start on June 2020 until 2024 at New London, Connecticut, USA, the PCG said. According to the agency, the USCGA offers a four-year program with an intensive undergraduate curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science degree with nine majors namely: Civil Engineering, Cyber Systems, Electrical Engineering, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Operations Research and Computer Analysis, Marine and Environmental Sciences, Government, Mechanical Engineering and Management. "Successful applicants to this program will be admitted as a regular cadet at the said academy and are subject to applicable USCGA regulations covering class attendance, discipline, and graduation requirements," the PCG said. "They will be provided with free tuition, monthly pay and allowances, free board and lodging, transportation expenses and government benefits," it added. The PCG noted that upon graduation, Filipino cadets will be commissioned in the PCG as regular Coast Guard officer with the rank of Ensign. Applicants, according to the Coast Guard, must be a natural-born Filipino citizen; must not be less than 17 years old or more than 22 years old by July 1, 2020; and must be medically and physically fit and able to swim. The applicant must also attain a score of at least 130 points in Physical Fitness Evaluation (PFE) by performing cadence push-ups, and sit-ups in two minutes and 2.4 kilometers run within the prescribed time; must be single and with no legal dependents; must have no derogatory records or legal impediments. Interested applicants are told to visit the PCG's website to check the other qualifications and the application procedure.
