The Commission on Election (Comelec) announced that certain prohibitions shall be strictly observed starting Monday, August 26, as the election period starts in the two legislative districts of Southern Leyte, and the first and third districts of South Cotabato.
Commission on Elections (MANILA BULLETIN)
Based on Comelec Resolution No. 10552, the election period in these places will run from August 26 to November 10, with the election day set on October 26.
The conduct of elections for the district representatives in these places was suspended to a date later than May 13, 2019, due to "operational and logistical constraints, in view of the passage of laws reapportioning the legislative districts therein."
To note, the passage of Republic Act No. 11198 last February resulted to the reapportioning of Southern Leyte from one to two legislative districts.
Meanwhile, Republic Act No. 11243 reapportioned the first legislative district of South Cotabato that led to the establishment of the legislative district of General Santos City.
"Bearing, carrying, or transporting firearms or other deadly weapons, unless authorized in writing by the Commission, (is a prohibited act)," the Comelec said.
It is also prohibited to alter the territory of a precinct or establishment of a new precinct; transfer or move officers and employees in the civil service; and suspend elective local officials.
"Use of security personnel or bodyguards by candidates, unless authorized in writing by the Commission (is a prohibited act)," the poll body said.
