Two-month voters' registration period begins August 1 – Comelec

If you are not registered and you want to vote in future polls, better make sure that you register during the two-month registration period which will start Thursday, August 1.

"All types of applications will be accepted, including registration, transfer of registration record, change/correction of entries, reactivation of registration record, inclusion of registration record and reinstatement of name in the list of voters. The poll body earlier announced that the voter registration will run from August 1 to September 30, 2019. Jimenez said applications may be filed from Monday to Saturday including holidays, from 8 AM to 5 PM, at the Office of the Election Officer or any satellite registration site in the locality where the registrant resides. "The Commission will open the registration process on Saturdays and holidays to allow more applicants to be accommodated, especially students and working people who may not have time during weekdays," he said. To maximize registration turnout in connection with the May 11, 2020 village and youth polls, the Comelec will also conduct satellite registration of voters nationwide. The poll body already directed all Election Officers nationwide to conduct at least one satellite registration of voters in their locality during the registration period. "The Comelec has been conducting mandatory satellite registration activities to bring the registration process closer to the people. It is our way of reaching out to every single Filipino citizen eligible to register but cannot go to their local Comelec offices due to schedule or travel constraints,” Jimenez said. The Comelec said satellite registration offices may be established in barangay halls/centers, public and private schools and universities, malls and commercial establishments and other public and convenient places. Qualified to register is any Filipino citizen; at least 15 years of age for SK voter, and at least 18 years of age for regular voter on May 11, 2020; resident of the Philippines for at least one year; and residing in the barangay for at least six months on or before Election Day. For the SK elections, the Comelec said voters who will be at least 15 but not more than 30 years old on Election Day shall be included in the list of those who may vote for SK candidates. The poll body, however, said that SK voters, who already turned 18 years old, will no longer need to enlist anew for the regular list of voters as their names will automatically be transferred. The Comelec is looking to register at least two million new voters during the period.
