2 QC inmates use quake drill to escape

By Joseph Almer Pedrajas Two inmates from the Quezon City Jail allegedly took advantage of the earthquake drill conducted in the city to escape Saturday morning, police said.

Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (MANILA BULLETIN) The Bureau of Jail and Penology Management (BJMP) immediately launched a hot pursuit operation against the inmates identified as Mamerto Valenzuela and Dennis Valdez. “There are two who managed to escape from our personnel’s watch and we have an ongoing hot pursuit operation to recapture them,” BJMP Spokesman Chief Inspector Xavier Solda said. “We still need to investigate the matter, though initially, we were told that they took advantage of the ongoing earthquake drill earlier today,” Solda added. Investigation showed that Valenzuela and Valdez went missing after they conducted an earthquake drill at Quezon City Jail in Barangay Kamuning at around 4:40 a.m. After an unsuccessful search for the two inmates, BJMP personnel Neil Camalig reported the incident to the Quezon City Police District at 8:15 a.m. According to police, Valenzuela is facing rape charges while Valdez is facing a drug case.
