LP divided in House as 7 members to join supermajority

The Liberal Party will be divided this 18th Congress, as seven of its members are expected to join the supermajority in the Lower Chamber.

This was disclosed by Caloocan City Rep. Edgar Erice in an interview, before attending the breakfast meeting at the Nograles Hall of the Representatives, initiated by Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano.
"Ang bilang ko 7-7-1,” he said, citing that only one LP lawmaker decided to stay as independent.
It will be Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman who decided to become independent. Lagman had expressed intention to become the House Minority Leader,
Erice disclosed that he would join the majority.
“Balanse ang LP,” Erice said. “Kaya nga balanse eh, iba ibang point of view,” he said, citing that seven other LP lawmakers will be part of the House Minority.
There are 18 LP lawmakers in the chamber.
Aside from Erice and Lagman, Reps. Kid Peña of Makati City, Kit Belmonte of Quezon City, Stella Quimbo of Marikina City, Cheryl Deloso of Zambales, Blue Abaya of Cavite, Josephine Sato of Occidental Mindoro, Boy Umali of Oriental Mindoro, Gabriel Bordado of Camarines Sur, Tawe Billones of Capiz, Josy Limkaichong of Negros Oriental, Edgardo Chatto of Bohol, Edgar Mary Sarmiento of Western Samar, Raul del Mar of Cebu City, Paul Daza of Northern Samar, Isagani Amatong of Zamboanga del Norte and Mujiv Hataman of Basilan belong to the former President Benigno S. Aquino’s party.
In a statement issued after the May elections, LP Secretary General and Quezon City Rep. Kit Belmonte said they were expecting "the same tyranny from the supermajority."
He said despite their number in the Lower Chamber in the next Congress, they will "fight and stand up for values."
"The Liberals and its allies will continue to stand for values. Maaaring kaunti kami, pero lalaban kami. Dahil hindi nadadaan sa paramihan ng mga nakataas na kamay ang tama at mali," he said.
