New Earth-like planets discovered around a nearby star

By Richa Noriega An international research team led by University of Göttingen has discovered two new Earth-like planets near one of the closest neighboring stars. The results of the research were published in the research journal Astronomy and Astrophysics. According to Astronomy and Astrophysics research journal, the new planets have almost exactly the same mass as the Earth. They are billions of years old and orbiting a star at a distance. They orbit on Teegarden’s star, an ancient star which is only 12-light-years from the Earth. It revealed that the Teegarden’s star was stable and has no large solar flares or violent activity that could threaten a potential life. The Teegarden’s star is the smallest star in which the researchers have been able to measure the weight of the planet directly. The Teegarden planet discovery is a huge milestone for the astronomers to locate potentially life-supporting planets.
