Safeguards must be provided to ensure the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) would not lose P154 billion again to “ghost” patients and health services, Vice President Leni Robredo said on Sunday.

The Vice President slammed the unscrupulous persons behind the fake dialysis scheme. “Alam natin kung gaano karami iyong pasyenteng nangangailangan ng dialysis tapos iisipin pang dayain,” Robredo, a former housing chief, said. (We know how many patients who are in need of dialysis for them to think of committing fraud.) “Iyong dinayang pera, pwede na sanang mapunta talaga sa tunay na mga dialysis treatments. Kaya ito iyong masakit dito. Kasi ang dami-daming nangangailangan, pag-iisipan pa ng iba na delihensyahan,” she added. (The misused funds could have been used for dialysis treatments.
