By AA Patawaran Today is the last day of this year's Pride Month, a global LGBT movement to commemorate the Stonewall riots of June 1969 in New York. Although it is also, in essence, protest against violence and discrimination toward members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual...etc. (LGBTQIA+) community, Pride is also a positive movement, a clamor for love, equality, acceptance, and understanding. In the Philippines, Internet star-on-the-rise Mimiyuuuh, whose name one must pronounce with a concert diva-worthy last syllable stretch, is proving to be a unicorn in the LGBTQIA+ movement. Still preferring the masculine pronoun to refer to himself, Mimiyuuuh has found his unique voice in the movement. Although his journey to acceptance has been a struggle, the voice he is raising for equality is insistent, if comically, optimistic -- and he has found that more and more people are listening. Once an assistant to fashion designer to the stars Mark Bumgarner, this 22-year-old Fashion Design and Merchandising graduate has found a new calling. His social media following, growing by leaps and bounds, as well as his goofball, love me-or-love me, I-Am-Really-Sailor Moon personality, not to mention his flair with thrift store and vintage finds and his Anna Wintour-approved bob is on its own a revolutionary act. "I just wish we could have equal opportunity, that people will truly accept us...less discrimination, less negativity. We deserve the same treatment given to a straight person or any person," he says.
