Two house helpers arrested for stealing P1.5M worth of jewelry and cash
Two newly-hired house helpers were arrested Saturday for allegedly stealing around P1.5 million worth of jewelry and cash from their employer in San Juan City over the weekend.
San Juan City Police chief Col. Ariel Fulo identified the suspects as Lourdes De Asis alias “Lulu,” 49; and Analyn Escari alias “Inday,” 20.
Police said it’s possible that suspects’ modus operandi is to apply as helpers and steal from their employer a few weeks after they were hired.
Investigation showed that 58-year-old Victoria Marzan filed a complaint after she discovered on Saturday that her cash and jewelry amounting to P1.5 million were missing from her safety vault, which was forcibly damaged.
The items were allegedly stolen by her house helpers who were only employed a month ago before they left and ended their employment on May 16, police said.
Marzan contacted Merriam De Asis Ropaning, who referred the house helpers to the victim, and told her about the incident. Ropaning agreed to bring the duo at Greenhills to meet with their employer.
Moments after they arrived, the house helpers were arrested inside a fast food chain. They denied stealing the cash and the jewelry, police said.
The two suspects are now detained at San Juan City Police custodial facility facing charges for qualified theft, police said. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas)
Shootout with police led to two drug personalities dead
Two alleged drug personalities were killed after they reportedly resisted arrest and fought back at the police in Navotas City on Sunday evening.
P/Col. Rolando Balasabas, Navotas City police chief, said that a certain Jeff and Vincent were walking in an alley in Barangay North Bay Boulevard North (NBBN) at around 10:30 p.m. when anti-illegal drugs operatives saw them holding a sachet of suspected shabu.
Balasabas added that the operatives, who were doing surveillance at the area, were about to accost the suspects when Vincent reportedly pulled out his gun and fired at them. This prompted the police to shoot at him that killed him instantly.
Meantime, Jeff then ran to his house to get his gun and reportedly fired at police. He was also killed when the police retaliated.
Seized from them were plastic cellophane containing suspected shabu, two sachets of suspected shabu and other drug paraphernalia.
Also recovered were a Colt .45 pistol, a caliber .45 Colt replica, a caliber .38 and five empty shells.
The slain suspects were then brought to Eusebio Funeral Homes for autopsy.

Woman arrested for promising nonexistent jobs in Qatar and bigtime illegal recruiter are one and the same
Investigators are looking into the possibility that the woman arrested inside the Manila Police District (MPD) for allegedly duping several workers of non-existent jobs in Qatar last Thursday and the bigtime illegal recruiter who managed to escape from the hands of the authorities several months ago are one and the same.
Editha Montero Bacani-Betguen, 52 and resident of 3 F Matulungin Street, Barangay Central, Quezon City, was reporting that her jewelry amounting to P300,000 and other belongings were stolen when elements of MPD-General Assignment and Investigation Section (GAIS) apprehended her inside the police headquarters along United Nations Avenue at around 11:30 a.m. on May 16.
At least 12 individuals who were victimized by the suspect sought police assistance.
According to them, Montero promised them to work as food servers in Qatar but they later learned that their visas were for house helpers.
They were also supposed to leave on April 30 and May 15 but the suspect suddenly disappeared.
Montero is now behind bars together with the person she accused of stealing her properties.
She already underwent inquest for cases of alleged estafa and large scale illegal recruitment.
P/SMS Byron Orate said they are verifying if Montero is the same person as Teresita Hassan, who is still at-large for a similar crime.
“They have similarities in the physical appearance. Both of them are also of the same age. Hassan could have undergone plastic surgery since she pocketed P40 million from the recruitment agency,” the on-case investigator said.
“Montero also used several aliases such as Editha Montero de Guzman, Fatima de Guzman, and Joy,” he added.
Meanwhile, two more complainants came forward to lodge complaints against Montero on Monday. Additional 15 victims are also expected to do the same this week. (Ria Fernandez)

Minutes later, the two witnesses noticed Lumadilla suddenly collapsed prompting them sought help from the duty jailers who checked the condition of the victim.
Members of PS-6 rushed Lumadilla to East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) but he eventually died.
Probers said no sign of external injury was noted on the victim's body during the conduct of the cursory examination.
However, it was found out that Lumadilla is suffering from bacterial meningitis, a brain disease, based on his medical records.
