By Joseph Almer Pedrajas Rex Gatchalian has been proclaimed as the Valenzuela City mayor by the city board of canvassers on Tuesday at around 12:20 a.m. He will be serving his third term as the city mayor. He garnered at least 249,508 votes—or 96.69% of voters who turned out to cast their ballots, and so far the largest among his three elections. His opponents, Bien Español got 2,288 votes, while Bong Go got 6,239. In an interview with reporters, Gatchalian said that he was overwhelmed by the number of votes he received. “It’s overwhelming. What I can only do to pay them back is to make their every vote count and to assure that all promises are fulfilled and all initiatives are launched,” he said. Gatchalian added that his victory is the victory of all Valenzuelanos. He said, he won because he listened to them. “There was no monopoly of an idea. I was not the only one who . Everything was done with their consent. I just implemented,” he said. Gatchalian has vowed to continue his projects in education through focusing on improving its curriculum and building more public libraries. He also assured that he will continue his public health services by building more hospitals, as well as to make more green spaces and safer environments in the city.
