Cebu City Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella, the standard bearer of Partido Demokratikong Pilipino (PDP) Laban-Barug, won over Tomas Osmeña in one of the most heated contests in Metro Cebu.
Osmeña conceded before midnight last Monday with Labella pulling away with and most of the votes already counted.
Also emerging victorious was former PBA player Dondon Hontiveros, who ran under Labella’s party.
As of 2:30 p.m., Hontiveros was leading all the candidates for councilor with 160,984 votes.
Labella, who was endorsed by President Duterte had 265,436 votes against Osmena's 246,399.
Labella’s running mate former city mayor Michael Rama, who was named as a drug protector by Duterte in 2017 before he was cleared last February, garnered 261,381 votes to defeat Osmena's ally, City Councilor Mary Ann Delos Santos, who got 234,615.
Rama and Labella were proclaimed past 2 p.m. Tuesday.
In Mandaue City, Mayor Luigi Quisumbing faltered in his reelection bid when he lost to PDP Laban candidate and current Cebu 6th District Rep. Jonas Cortes.
Quisumbing, a member of Hugpong Pagbabago of Sara Duterte, tallied 58,842 votes, while Cortes, a former Mandaue mayor, received 101,641 votes.
In Lapu-Lapu City, the dominant Radaza clan faltered as Pajo Barangay Captain Ahong Chan won the mayoralty race with 85,976 votes.
Arturo Radaza, the husband of incumbent mayor Paz, only got 66,108 votes.
Harry Radaza, Arturo’s nephew, also lost to Chan’s running mate, Celsi Sitoy.
Paz, however, won over three other candidates for the lone district’s seat in the House of Representatives. #MatalinongBoto2019
