DOH to probe presence of foreign physicians working in PH

By Analou De Vera The Department of Health (DOH) said it will investigate reports about the presence of foreign doctors in the Philippines, who were reportedly do not have the necessary work permits. The presence of the foreign physicians was recently raised by Senator Richard Gordon. “I have already instructed the Human Resource for Health Development Bureau of the DOH to investigate immediately, acting upon the letter that was sent to me by Senator Gordon last week,” said Duque. "We took hold of the letter, we'll look at the content of the letter, then we'll address the points that have been raised by Senator Gordon," he added. The health chief said that foreign doctors cannot practice their profession in the Philippines "unless there is a reciprocity agreement." Gordon recently called for an investigation after he learned that there were Pakistani and Nepali doctors that have been practicing medicine as medical consultants at the James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital in Olongapo City.
