Vice President Leni Robredo has called on Cebuanos to campaign for the Otso Diretso senatorial bets during a sortie of the opposition group in the vote-rich province of Cebu on Sunday afternoon.
(L-R) Liberal Party Chairperson and campaign manager Senator Kiko Pangilinan, "Otso Diretso" senatorial bets returning Senator Mar Roxas II, Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano, ex-Quezon congressman Erin Tañada, Marawi civic leader Samira Gutoc, Vice President Leni Robredo, veteran election lawyer Romy Macalintal, former solicitor Florin Hilbay, human rights lawyer Chel Diokno, re-electionist Senator Bam Aquino (ALI VICOY / MANILA BULLETIN)
"Matino, mahusay, at matatag ang panindigan. Sila pong walo ang ating kinakailangan sa Senado. Huling pakiusap po sa inyong lahat. Huwag lang po natin silang iboto; ikampanya rin natin sila (Well-bred, efficient, and principled. These are the qualities of our eight candidates that we need in the Senate. I have a last appeal to all of you. Let us not just vote for them; let us campaign for them)," she said at Plaza Independencia in Cebu City.
"Napakalaki ng aming paniniwala na ang Cebu ay malakas ang boses ng bawat mamamayan ( We strongly believe that people of Cebu have a powerful voice)," she added.
Cebu province has over three million registered voters.
The vice president said the last province that her late husband visited was Cebu. Her husband, former Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robredo died in a plane crash on Aug. 18, 2012.
According to her, she frequently visits Cebu as she had projects in 10 towns of Cebu.
"Madalas ho ako sa inyong lalawigan. Kadalasan tahimik lang ang aking pagbisita dahil po marami kaming proyekto sa Opisina ng Pangalawang Pangulo dito sa Cebu. Sampung bayan po rito sa Cebu ang aming pinupuntahan (I always go here in your province. My visits here are usually without fanfare because the Office of the Vice President has many projects here in Cebu. We go to 10 towns here in Cebu )," Robredo said.
Last February, the vice president was in Cebu for the launch of the Ahon Laylayan Coalition as a platform for determining the needs of communities, especially those at the fringes of the society.
With the vice president in Cebu were the eight opposition senatorial candidates Bam Aquino, Mar Roxas, Gary Alejano, Chel Diokno, Romulo Macalintal, Erin Tañada, Samira Gutoc, and Florin Hilbay.
Robredo said all of them were very worthy to become senators, saying they have great track records. #MatalinongBoto2019
