The local government of Mandaluyong City has requested the management of shopping malls, hotels, condominiums, and other establishments in the city to submit their assessment report regarding the possible damage sustained by their infrastructure from the strong quake that hit on Monday.
“The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) together with the City Engineering Department requested malls, condominiums and other establishments to submit an assessment report regarding the damage of the quake,” Jimmy Isidro, city public information office chief, told the Manila Bulletin in a phone interview Tuesday.
Some notable buildings in the Mandaluyong are the SM Megamall, Forum Robinsons, The Podium, Shangri-La Plaza, Starmall, and St. Francis Square Mall.
Fire Superintendent Christine Cula, city fire marshal of Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), said no major damage were reported in the city after the 6.1 magnitude quake on Monday.
However, she said, that the concrete cladding on the wall of GA Tower, a high-rise condominium right beside MRT-3 Boni Station, collapsed. But “the core wall (of the tower) was okay,” Cula added.
Mayor Carmelita “Menchie” Abalos on Tuesday morning met with key officials and department heads, particularly the CDRRMO and the City Engineering Office, for the conduct of inspection of government buildings and facilities in the city.
“We already inspected several hospitals, clinics, public schools and health centers in the city,” Isidro said.
