5 Filipinos seek refuge after Tripoli rocket attack

By Philippine News Agency MANILA-- Five Filipinos residing in the areas affected by the recent rocket attack in Tripoli have sought refuge at the Philippine Embassy in Libya, a ranking official said Wednesday. "There are more than 200 Filipinos living and working in the areas struck by the rockets last night," Chargé d’Affaires Elmer Cato told the Philippine News Agency. Of this number, he said five, including a Filipino, injured following the rocket barrage, asked if they could be temporarily accommodated in the Embassy. The injured Filipino, who also requested to be repatriated, was staying in a house across another house that was directly hit by a rocket. "We are expecting the injured Filipino later," Cato said. According to reports, at least four were killed while 23 were wounded after the Southern district of Abu Salim in the capital got shelled Tuesday night. "Some said they were traumatized by the incident because the rockets fell dangerously close to where they were staying. Some told us the rockets struck as close as 50 meters from their residences," Cato shared. "Fighting has not spilled over to the capital yet but Tripoli proper is easily within range of rocket launchers and artillery," he added. Meanwhile, he reiterated the embassy's appeal for Filipinos in Tripoli to "seriously consider repatriation" after the rocket attack.
