CBA: MNL, Gen. Trias down foes

by Ernest Hernandez MNL Sausage banked on hot performances from Wowie Escosio and EJ Canelas to edge Parañaque, 103-100, in the Community Basketball Association Founder's Cup held at the Olivares College Gymnasium in Parañaque on Saturday. Escosio dropped 29 points on 11-of-19 shooting alongside 10 rebounds, one assist, two blocks, and one steal. Canelas added 23 markers and three boards for the MNL Sausage which broke loose late in the game using an 8-0 blast to break a 94-all tie. Pao Castro made 20 markers, three caroms, two dimes, and one steal for Parañaque. In the first game, General Trias rode on a hot start to beat Marikina, 109-99. The Braves dropped 34 points on the Sapateros in the first quarter and opened a 17-point lead which they protected the rest of the way. Ian Melencio made 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting, seven rebounds, eight assists, one steal, and one block for Gen. Trias. Dionisio Gonzales added 19 markers on 8-of-10 field goals with two rebounds, three dimes, and two steals as all but one of the players checked in the game scored in double figures. JR Ng Sang dropped 27 points on 11-of-18 shooting, nine rebounds, three assists, and one block for Marikina.
