Surigao del Sur councils' declare communist terrorists 'persona non grata'

By Mike Crismundo TANDAG CITY – The Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) and Provincial Development Council (PDC) of Surigao del Sur on Thursday jointly approved a resolution declaring the Communist New People’s Army Terrorists (CNTs) as “persona non grata” or undesirable in the province of Surigao del Sur during their special joint PPOC and PDC meeting at Villa Maria Luisa Hotel in Tandag City, following the lead of 5 barangays in conflict-affected barangays that declared the same earlier. (401st Brigade-CMO / MANILA BULLETIN) The five barangays that declared earlier the CNTs as “persona non grata” were Barangays Mampi and Pakwan of Lanuza town, Barangay San Roque of Madrid town, Barangay Cabangahan of Cantilan town and Barangay Pantukan of Carrascal town all of Surigao del Sur province. Board Member Heinrich Pimentel the movant of the resolution said, “if the 5 barangays are brave enough to declare the CNTs as undesirable people in their barangays then how much more the PPOC and PDC of Surigao del Sur, the two special bodies mandated to plan and integrate the peace and development of the province?”. The motion was unanimously seconded by the members of both councils and was approved by Surigao del Sur Governor Manuel O. Alameda, Sr., the presiding officer. Brigadier General Andres C. Centino, commanding general of the Army’s 401stInfantry (Unity) Brigade and Colonel Maurito L. Licudine, commanding officer of the Army’s 402nd Infantry (Stingers) Brigade who were present during the special Joint meeting commends the PPOC and PDC members for making a united stand to pass a resolution declaring the CNTs as “persona non grata”. “Surigao del Sur has the highest number of CNTs in Caraga region, conducting extortion activities and attacking civilians. It is also where the CPP-NPA celebrated its anniversary in the past particularly in Andap Valley complex and other areas, thus this declaration only shows that the people of Surigao del Sur are already fed-up with the 50 years of lies and atrocities of these bandits against the people,” added the 401st Brigade commander. “We would like to appeal to other local government units in Caraga region to follow the example of Surigao del Sur province, municipality of Sibagat in Agusan del Sur and the five barangays mentioned above for taking a stand against the presence of the CNTs in their respective localities in order to show their sincerity and support to the call of President Rodrigo Duterte to once and for all end the Communist insurgency in the country,” the two Army Brigade commanders said.
