DSWD denounces logo use in political ad

By Tara Yap ILOILO CITY — The Western Visayas regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-6) denounced the use of its logo in a political advertisement. “We are non-partisan. We are not endorsing any party or political candidate,” emphasized DSWD-6 Regional Director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre. An advertisement with a woman wearing a green shirt that had DSWD’s logo was aired on television and posted on Facebook. “She is not our employee and is not connected with DSWD. The use of DSWD’s logo was done without our consent,” Macapobre pointed out. This was not the first time politicians here used the DSWD or its programs in their campaign for the May 2019 elections. Last year, politicians hijacked the distribution of DSWD’s Unconditional Cash Transfer program. Just like a political rally, candidates including incumbent city officials spoke with their campaign posters splattered everywhere. DSWD-6 also reiterated that politicians cannot remove or insert names of beneficiaries from its social programs based on support for particular candidates or parties. #MatalinongBoto2019
