Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa, officer-in-charge of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said the improved Pistol and Rifle Firing Range will be helpful in training the newly-recruited commandos to fill the five battalions which were ordered created by President Duterte.
Gamboa said the firing range comes with two other facilities—the Male Training Barracks for the trainees and the covered gym for physical fitness of the trainees.
“They are state-of-the art facilities. The facilities will enable not just the students but also the training staff to hone their professional skills and thereby producing police officers that can be at par world-wide,” said Gamboa.
The projects were started in November 27, 2017 and were completed in August 28 this year. They were inaugurated on Friday with Gamboa as guest of honor and speaker.
“Equipping operational units like SAF will be continuously included in the PNP’s modernization program. I enjoin SAF to have a strong resolve to persevere and thrive to become the best version of itself and raise above all the challenges while delivering its oath to uphold the law and order as police officers,” said Gamboa in his speech.
The SAF is the most elite force of the PNP as commandos are trained to battle threat groups that include rebels and suspected terrorists. With its mission, SAF commandos are also well-trained and well-equipped.
It is at the SAF Training Branch in Sta. Rosa City where the rigid training occurs.
“SAFTB, until now, serves as the center for training and discipline to all SAF troopers. It has been the training ground that continuously molds and transforms the chosen few who took the courage to undergo the SAF foundation course and other specialization courses,” said Captain Jonalyb Malnat, SAF spokesperson.
The new facilities, according to Malnat, are part of President Duterte’s order to create additional five SAF battalions to meet the country’s threats to national security on terrorism and insurgency.
“The projects are also part of the unit’s Capability Enhancement Program (CEP) aimed to further strengthen the unit in the accomplishment of its mandate such as but not limited to counterterrorism, counterinsurgency, hostage rescue, search and rescue, civil disturbance management and other special police operations,” said Malnat.
