CEBU CITY — Four months after it celebrated its 450th founding anniversary, the province of Cebu now has its own commemorative stamp.

The stamp, which was created by the Philippine Postal Corporation (Philpost), bears the façade of the Capitol building, which is already considered a historical landmark.
Located in Barangay Capitol Site in Cebu City, the Capitol building was built in 1938.
The late President Manuel L. Quezon led the inauguration of the building in 1939. Some parts of the building got destroyed during the World War 2 but have already been restored.
Philpost Postmaster General Joel Otara and Governor Gwen Garcia led the unveiling of the stamp at the Capitol Social Hall last Tuesday.
Otara thanked the governor for finally realizing Philpost’s plan of creating a commemorative stamp for Cebu.
“Actually, this has been brought up in the previous administration but it is only now that it was realized because the governor is really interested in making Cebu a historical spot,” said Otara.
Otara said the stamp will be sold for P12 each.
“For now, it will only available in Cebu. But in the next production, the stamp will already be available in other areas in the country,” Otara said.
