Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa, PNP officer-in-charge, announced the new assignment of Abu in a statement sent to reporters.
"Under his watch, he will lead the HSS to implement policies, rules, and regulations governing the daily activities inside Camp Rafael T. Crame, providing an environment that is conducive to the efficient and effective pursuance of the PNP mission and functions," Gamboa said.
A member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) "Makatao" Class of 1989, Abu served as the SAF deputy director since November 2018.
He is also a former executive officer of the PNP Directorate for Police Community Relations (DPCR).
Meanwhile, Police Brig. Gen. Elmedio Tagra was designated as the deputy director of the Civil Security Group (CSG) from his previous assignment at the Directorate for Intelligence (DI). He is a member of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Class of 1988.
Five other top officials were given new assignments by Gamboa.
They were Colonel Benjamin Acorda who was assigned as the acting executive officer of the DI; Col. Luisito Magnaye as acting deputy director of SAF; Col. Rommel Francisco Marbil as Chief of Staff of CSG; and Col. Ronaldo Cabral as acting deputy regional director for operations of Northern Mindanao Police Regional Office (PRO-10).
Col. Ferdinand Sifuentes was also named as the acting deputy regional director for administration of PRO-10 effective on December 17.
"The latest round of reorganization manifests the continuing reform in the command structure of the 195,000-strong police force under leadership," Gamboa said.
