Teen, SK kagawad face theft raps in Bacolod for car break-in

By Glazyl Masculino  BACOLOD CITY - A Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) kagawad (councilor) of Barangay Tangub here and a male teenager were charged for theft after allegedly becoming involved in a “basag-kotse” (vehicle break-in) incident at the said village last Tuesday. (Pixabay / MANILA BULLETIN) (Pixabay / MANILA BULLETIN) Police Station 8 head Major Charles Gever identified the suspects as SK kagawad Jerry Catapang, 24, and his companion Lito Capunong, 18. Both are detained at the police station. Gever said the suspects allegedly robbed the car of Rodrigo Tacuyo Jr. which was parked at Barangay Tangub at around 6:30 p.m. Gever said the suspects were arrested in a follow-up operation after Catapang texted a random number listed on the contacts of his stolen mobile phone and asked for P50 load. Gever said the suspect was not aware that the person he texted was the owner of the phone. Tacuyo reported the incident to the police, prompting them to launch an entrapment operation where Catapang allegedly asked for P5,000 cash from the victim. Catapang was arrested and police recovered from him the victim’s mobile phone. He also pointed to Capunong, who was arrested at his residence and also allegedly yielded another stolen cellular phone. Police also recovered from them other stolen items. Gever said one of them was previously arrested for a drug offense in the area of Police Station 2. Meanwhile, both suspects denied the allegations against them, the station commander said.
