In a report by GMA News, a total of 579 barangays in 14 cities were identified by MMDA as flood-prone areas. The source of the data is the Mines and Geosciences Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. The numbers of flood-prone barangays per city are:
- Manila - 215
- Caloocan - 17
- Las Piñas - 21
- Makati - 30
- Mandaluyong - 20
- Marikina - 14
- Muntinlupa - 9
- Parañaque - 15
- Pasay - 121
- Pasig - 28
- Pateros - 10
- Quezon City - 62
- San Juan - 1
- Taguig – 16
Garcia said the agency’s flood control teams have been cleaning the drainage systems every day, even without a storm coming.
Garcia noted that the 61 pumping stations of MMDA are all working and urged the public to properly dispose their garbage, otherwise, these will clog the pumping stations.
"Floods should subside from 30 minutes to one hour but we need to stop the pumps to clean them of garbage,” he said.
Garcia added that MMDA will be coordinating with different local government units if they are in need of assistance.
