Strong tidal waves as high as five meters have displaced more than 600 people whose houses were destroyed in Paluan town in Occidental Mindoro.
Mayor Carl Pangilinan said at least 26 houses were destroyed in 10 coastal barangays of Paluan due to tidal waves spawned by tropical storm 'Quiel'.
"It started Wednesday night until Friday morning. The strong waves destroyed houses, fortunately, there was no casualty" said Pangilinan.
He said the waves also damaged at least 58 fishing boats by local residents.
The official said the evacuees sought refuge in barangay halls and other safe areas.
He said the residents have already gone back to rebuild their homes.
"The most affected is our local economy because of the damaged fishing boats," said Pangilinan.
"We are planning to have a meeting and we will propose for the declaration of state of calamity," he added.
The weather disturbance also triggered flashflood and landslide in the northern part of Luzon and left at least three people dead.
