DPWH warns public over people falsely seeking donations using official's name

By Betheena Unite Unscrupulous individuals in Soccsksargen Region have been using the name of a top official in soliciting money from contractors for the victims of the series of earthquakes in Mindanao, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said, warning the public that it is a total fraud. It was reported that these erring individuals are asking for donations “purportedly to address the plight of the Mindanao earthquake victims” but it was only their way to take advantage of the situation to benefit themselves. “Let it be known that the undersigned (Regional Director Basir Ibrahim) has neither solicited nor authorized any solicitations,” the regional office said through a statement. “Any solicitation using the name of the undersigned is unauthorized, unlawful, and should be disregarded.” Ibrahim, on the other hand, said that any form of solicitation received from any group or individual using the names of any official of the district engineering offices, region, or department should be reported to the department’s Stakeholders Relations Service or to the Public Affairs and Information Office. “Please be informed that these acts are not only fraudulent and unauthorized, they also constitute a felony and any person found guilty thereof shall be punished by imprisonment,” the regional office further said.
