Night markets in QC to showcase products of displaced vendors

By Chito Chavez A night market in Quezon City known as “Sari Sari Kyusi” that features the wares of street vendors displaced by road clearing operations will open today, November 24, at the Ayala Vertis North. Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said the night market will serve as a platform to showcase the wares of street vendors displaced by road clearing operations. “Quezon City has always been inclusive and always looking out for the welfare of its people, was truly a wakeup call for the QC government,” said Belmonte. “We needed a program that would not only restore the livelihood of our vendors, but more so, restore the dignity of their pride in the business that they are doing. We want them to be proud of their crafts by being a part of Sari Sari Kyusi,” she added. Sari Sari Kyusi 2019 has partnered with POP QC to promote the city’s homegrown businesses and diverse culture in order to establish local pride. Night market goers can look forward to Pop QC Artists, which will showcase different live performances from Quezon City-based bands and singers during special weekend programs. “We would like to invite everyone, not only Quezon City residents, to come and experience Sari Sari Kyusi,” Belmonte said. “Not only will you be able to get very good bargains, you will also get to experience our homegrown talents and artists,” she noted. Aside from the opening of the Quezon City Night Market at 5 p.m., the night market at the TUCP grounds will also open on the same day at 3 p.m. Belmonte will lead the ribbon-cutting ceremony on both locations with popular rock band Rocksteddy and homegrown bands providing entertainment to the shoppers. The night market at the TUCP compound is open from 3 p.m. to 12 midnight while the night market at the Ayala Vertis North is open from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m.
