Online prostitution busted in Iligan City

  By Bonita Ermac ILIGAN CITY – A mother was nabbed by authorities, Thursday, in an entrapment operation here for allegedly engaging in sexual human trafficking through the Internet at the Sakura Suites in Barangay Ubaldo Laya here. Police Major Abogado P. Mautin, Jr., chief, Iligan City Police Station 4, identified the suspect as Mardy Amor Sumalinog, who is also known as Mawie Wilson, who allegedly posted photos of her so-called “angels” on her Facrebook account. Mautin said Sumalinog used her FB account to establish contact with prospective clients to whom she would later bring her “angel”. Recovered from Sumalinog during the entrapment operation was the P2,000 in marked money. Sumalinog, who was breast-feeding her nine-month old child, when she was arrested, admitted engaging in the illegal activity even when she was still a student. She said she temporarily stopped when she got married, only to return to the illicit activity when her husband could not sufficiently provide for the family’s financial needs. The suspect will be charged for violation of R.A. 9208, as amended by RA10364 known as the "Expanded  Anti-Trafficking In Persons Act Of 2012 with no bail recommended said Mautin. Sumalinog’s victims, the youngest of whom was 18 years old, were turned over to the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) office. "May this successful operation against human trafficking send a message to all outlaws that Iligan City Police Office (ICPO) is serious in hunting them, put behind bars and pay for their crimes committed", said City Director Police Colonel Michael M. Pareja.
